The Ashes 2019, second Test, day one LIVE: Australia vs England at Lord’s

No signs of play at this stage

By Chris Barrett

The outlook remains grim in terms of the chances of any cricket being played any time soon, with the rain still coming down in north London.

There can be play until as late as 7pm local time here so even if the wet weather continues, it's not expected that the day would be declared a wash-out until late in the afternoon.

As for those with a ticket who have taken cover here, if there is any less than 20 overs of play then they are entitled to a refund.

Amazing Adelaide is on the box

The rain has settled in and Channel Nine are now showing highlights of the Adelaide Test in the 2006-07 Ashes series. What a Test. Would happily live blog this, can remember exactly where I was when Mike Hussey hit the winning runs.

If there's any news from Lord's, where we're yet to have a toss, you'll be one of the first to know.

Aussies well on top in series

Australia's win at Edgbaston was one for the ages. Steve Smith, Matthew Wade, Peter Siddle and Pat Cummins all contributed in their own ways to give the visitors a 1-0 lead in the best of five series. Here's how a gripping first Test played out in case you had forgotten (or have been partying since last week).

Play was supposed to start at 8pm AEST. The waiting game begins. We should play a little bit of first ball bingo.

Covers are back on

Bad news, cricket fans. The news from Lord's is the covers are back on despite being off for a few minutes. I'll make a prediction that they don't come off for the rest of the day. Happy to be proven wrong through as better for everyone seeing some action today.

Bookies have the draw as the favourite outcome and with good reason.

Will be interesting to see what deck the curators have dished up and whether there will be a bit more juice in it than what we saw at Edgbaston.

Brad Hogg gives the rarest Test preview you will ever see

We're going to have some time to kill this evening. Stumbled upon this on Twitter and it's safe to say that George Bradley Hogg has served up one of the strangest videos going around. Why? I'm not quite sure. Did play seven Tests and 123 ODIs for Australia…

Inspection at 8pm AEST
