The world’s most expensive player had earlier scored his seventh Ligue 1 goal of the season, but then his Sunday evening went terribly wrong.

Florian Thauvin gave Marseille the lead in Le Classique with 12 minutes to go and then Neymar was shown a straight red card.
The former Barcelona man was involved in a spat with Lucas Ocampos, who tripped Neymar from behind. The PSG striker responded by knocking into his opponent’s chest but Ocampos reacted by collapsing to the floor holding his face.

The referee brandished a red card and Neymar has since made it clear he disagrees with the decision.
‘I think it was exaggerated, yes. And unfair. I spent the whole game getting enough [fouls]. I have many marks on my body,’ he told Esporte Interativo.
‘It was a move I tried to continue after suffering a foul. I was annoyed at the blow from behind.’
Neymar then suggested the referee was seeking attention: ‘The referee did what he wanted, which was to send me off and appear more than the players.’

Neymar will have been relieved to see his team-mate Edinson Cavani score a stunning free-kick in the third minute of injury time to level the match at 2-2.
That goal maintained PSG’s unbeaten start to the season and sees them sit four points clear at the top of Ligue 1.
