BHOPAL: Ahead of CBI court's verdict in 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti in a letter to BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda has stated that she will not seek bail and is prepared to be hanged if found guilty.
Bharti has said a day back that she wanted to be present in the court during the verdict. However, she was not allowed by the authorities after she tested positive for Covid-19 and is undergoing treatment at AIIMS Rishikesh.
"I do not know what the Ayodhya judgement will be on September 30 but I will not seek bail," said Bharti in the letter. The BJP leader is among 32 other accused who have been asked to remain present during the verdict in the CBI court in Lucknow on September 30.
On the outcome of the verdict, she said, "I am proud of my participation in the Ayodhya movement and even if I have to hang for having participated, it will be acceptable to me. Seeking bail, I believe, would tarnish the dignity of my participation in the movement. In such circumstances, whether you want to keep me in the new team or not that's for you to consider."
Bharti in her letter said, "I have to appear before the CBI special court in Lucknow on September 30 to hear the verdict. I consider the law as the Vedas, the court as the temple and the judge as God. Therefore every decision of the court will be God's blessing for me."
“It is a matter of pride, bliss and surprising anomaly that in the same Ayodhya case in which the CBI doubted me as a conspirator in 2017, our Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of the same (Ayodhya temple) on August 5, 2020. I will accept the verdict of the court,” she wrote.
A three-term MP, Bharti did not contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and after the second Narendra Modi government was sworn in, she rose to the post of vice-president of the BJP in June 2019. Bharti held the post until September 26, when she was dropped by Nadda during the formation of his new team on September 26.
