SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday said they have busted a Jaish-e-Muhammad module and arrested three people, including the nephew of a former PDP MLA, allegedly involved in a recent grenade attack at Lal Chowk in Srinagar in which seven civilians and two CRPF men were injured.
Addressing a press conference, senior superintendent of police (Srinagar) Haseeb Mughal said in just five days, police busted the module that was involved in the February 2 Pratap Park grenade attack.
“We arrested one Shakeel Ahmed Bandh, who is the nephew of former PDP legislator Muhammad Khalil Bandh. Shakeel had been staying with Bandh at his official residence in Tulsi Bagh for the past three years,” the SSP said.
“Based on the interrogation of Shakeel, the two others — Naveedul Lateef and Shamshad Manzoor of Pulwama district — were arrested,” he said.
The SSP said that Naveed and Shamshad were influenced by Shakeel. “On the directions of Shakeel, Naveed and Shamshad agreed to lob the grenade and decided to go for a toss. Naveed won the toss and lobbed the grenade.”
