NEW DELHI: Union minister for department of atomic energy Jitendra Singh on Tuesday called for setting up “three-tier teams for scientific research involving the versatile ones, the middle generation and the younger generation so that continuity could be maintained in research work”.
After inaugurating the Delhi leg of the four-city global science exhibition “Vigyan Samagam”, the minister said these “exhibitions showcase 7-8 mega science projects (CERN, FAIR, INO, ITER, LIGO, MACE, SKA and TMT) and one of them (MACE largest telescope project in Ladakh) is primarily of Indian origin, which gives us pride that we can Make in India. What is made in India lasts long and is cost-effective than what we import from China.”
He said the exhibits will educate students and encourage them to choose science as a career. The minister said a Hall of Nuclear Energy was set up in Pragati Maidan to educate students about the civil applications of atomic energy. Likewise, a hall is being planned on similar lines for space technology.
Veteran nuclear scientist R Chidambaram said, “We want to build advanced super structures but mega science and technology research projects can no longer be taken by a single country.
