
Manchester United failed with a late push to sign Tanguy Ndombele ahead of Tottenham, according to reports.
Spurs have shattered their transfer record for the France international having agreed a €62 million (£55.4m) deal with Lyon, plus a further €10m (£8.8m) in add-ons.
Ndombele has also agreed a six-year contract with Spurs and has completed his medical after arriving in London.
But according to The Guardian, Spurs were forced to fend off late interest from United with Mauricio Pochettino playing a key role in convincing the midfielder to reject a switch to Old Trafford.

United and Manchester City had both been interest in Ndombele but the midfielder was impressed with Spurs after he met with Pochettino at the clubs training ground last week.
The France international made 34 appearances for Lyon last season and was instrumental in helping the club finish third in Ligue 1.

Ndombele was also praised for his display by Pep Guardiola after Lyon beat Manchester City in the Champions League last season.
