
Manchester United believe their chances of landing Sean Longstaff this summer have been boosted by Rafael Benitezs departure from Newcastle United, sources have told Metro.co.uk.
The Spaniard will officially vacate his role at St James Park this week after failing to agree a contract extension with club owner Mike Ashley.
Keeping Longstaff had been of paramount importance to Benitez, who gave the midfielder his Premier League debut for the Magpies.
The 21-year-old, a boyhood Newcastle fan, had also been keen to stay in the north-east to continue his development under Benitez but the uncertainty over the clubs future has led to Longstaff questioning his future.
