The Reds were knocked off their perch by Manchester City when Pep Guardiolas men beat Cardiff on Wednesday night.
However, three points will take Liverpool back to the summit and pile the pressure back on the side from the Etihad.
Southampton are five points clear of the relegation zone, but will be desperate to pick up a result to ease their fears of the drop.
