Race-by-race guide and tips for Wyong on Thursday

With so much rain in the lead-up track likely to settle around a Soft 7/Heavy 8, with the Rail out 3m, so on-pace early should dominate.

Race 1 4YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

Tricky opener, although two runners with a small weight advantage are also best served in rain-affected ground. Randwick mare 5. Everlasting Love has only missed a place once from seven starts, and has been strong to the line all three runs this prep. By noted wet-track sire Your Song, she looks best placed here from a nice trailing draw.

Dangers: Local mare 4. City Of Love has also found the line nicely in two runs back and has shown a liking to get through wet ground from off the speed. Rosehill-trained 1. Devil's Luck has the ability to carry big weights and will enjoy the step up to a mile, but the ground is a query.

How to play it: Everlasting Love to win and quinella 4 and 5

Race 2 MAIDEN HCP (1350m):

Randwick-trained 8. Ladies' Gem is screaming to win a race after three good closing efforts this prep, and gets in on the 54kg limit here.

Dangers: The Chris Waller-trained 2. Devil's Luck is hard fit and but looks well placed here fifth run this campaign.

How to play it: Ladies' Gem to win and quinella 2 and 8

Race 3 4YO & UP MAIDEN HCP (1100m):

No more intriguing runner than well-bred Randwick mare 6. Mulberry Walk who flopped badly in her first two career runs mid year – including as long odds-on favourite on debut – but has strengthened up and trialled strongly for her return, and this looks weak.

Dangers: Warwick Farm-trained 2. Bannone also failed in her first two races in town mid year, but two recent trials at Rosehill suggest she'll be more switched on this time. Warwick Farm mare 7. Impurity resumed in good style at Hawkesbury; while 1. Archedemus was beaten far as a well-backed favourite resuming at Kembla, and has since had a forward trial.

How to play it: Mulberry Walk to win

Race 4 MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

Another one for the sprinters looking to break through. Promising Rosehill filly 7. Enjoy Elsie was only fair on debut at Hawkesbury in early August, but signalled huge improvement with a slashing trial win at Rosehill from the front, easily breaking 53 secs in the quickest 900m time of the morning, despite over-racing early. The one to beat!

Dangers: Two well-bred debutants can shape the market. Warwick Farm-trained 4. The Runner (Snitzel x Femina Fashion by Shamardal) has just been edged out in two Rosehill trials, although well held together in the most recent and could have easily won it, and is bred to get through wet ground. Godolphin filly 6. Ballad (Street Boss x Weaver Of Words by Danehill) also looked handy in a recent trial win, but was pushed out to the line. All three have leading trainer/rider combinations and almost impossible to see anything else winning the race.

How to play it: Enjoy Elsie to win and quinella 4 and 7 and box trifecta 4-6-7

Race 5 CL1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2100m):

Warwick Farm 4YO 6. The Seven Falls has been very costly for punters going under as favourite in all three runs this prep in the country, but back in town with a drop in weight, senior metro rider aboard, and stepping up to a more suitable trip, it's time for payback!

Dangers: Locally-trained and lightly-raced 5. Jazzland hit the line nicely resuming at Muswellbrook before a fair effort at Newcastle last start, but up in trip will be ridden quieter, so watch for him late. Another local 1. Captain's Legend broke through at his 15th start at Hawkesbury sitting right on the speed, and while up in weight, is hard fit, and again gets a cosy on-speed run from a nice draw.

How to play it: The Seven Falls to win

Race 6 BM 64 HCP (1600m):

Rosehill-trained 2. Smiling Manolito has continued to improve this prep, and was only just run down at Kembla this trip last start after being well supported. Carried 59kg to break his maiden at Newcastle previous start and is a well-bred stayer of some potential in the making.

Dangers: Randwick colt 5. Saving announced his ability on debut storming home to win at Newcastle, despite easy in betting, and this looks a nice second-up assignment, with top hoop aboard from the good draw. Both 1. Noble Truth, who hasn't won for a year, and ex-Kiwi 6. Ivy's Court both mix their form, but are capable of winning this grade on their day.

How to play it: Smiling Manolito to win and box trifecta 1-2-5-6

Race 7 TOWN PLATE CL4 HCP (1350m):

Very tricky race, but Randwick-trained 3. Cuba resumes in a suitable grade. Been given two trials and normally runs a race fresh.

Dangers: Local 4YO mare 6. Bryan's Babe is a consistent place-getter who seemingly saves her best for rain-affected tracks.

How to play it: Cuba to win.

Race 8 CL1 HCP (1350m):

Competitive affair to finish, although Hawkesbury filly 5. Ragazze looks ready to win her second race at only third start. Scored a dominant win on debut at Kembla; before not beaten far in Heavy 9 ground when heavily backed. Stable places them well, and she's bred to get through all ground, and a wide draw could be advantageous on a chopped up track late in the day.

Dangers: Rosehill-trained 4. Leardo looks over the odds after breaking through on the same day at Kembla. Carries 1kg lighter here, and bred to swim. Include both 1. Kaecilius who resumes and 3. Rheingau in wider exotics.

How to play it: Ragazze to win and box trifecta 1-3-4-5
