Tottenham believe they can finance a deal for Martial but United have told Spurs that he will not be sold to a rival, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Spurs know United are keen on signing Toby Alderweireld and believed they could talk United down from their £70m valuation of Martial.

Martial is unlikely to fly back to the States for Uniteds next two matches and may only play one more pre-season game before United kick off their Premier League campaign against Leicester City.
The Frenchmans agent confirmed earlier this summer that Martial wants to leave the club after three years in the north-west.
Martial was enjoying a good run in the side before Alexis Sanchezs arrival in January and failed to score after the Chileans move to Old Trafford.
