Another day, another suggestion on how to be more successful at not dying alone.

Not sharing too many photos, not talking about sex with an ex and not making jokes about your potential date’s appearance are all good places to start, apparently.

Now online dating service Zoosk are here to tell us single pringles how to appear less gross to our prospective baes – but before you roll your eyes, this is actually a vaguely interesting one.

Because it’s about the number one bae of all: food.

Zoosk took a nosy at 3,733,185 dating profiles and 364,609,566 first messages, to work out how mentioning different foods affected online daters’ romantic interactions.

The dating site also surveyed over 7,000 single people because my god, they love data.

Top 10 best foods to mention in your dating profile, and increase in inbound messages

  1. Guacamole – 144%
  2. Potatoes – 101%
  3. Chocolate – 100%
  4. Salad – 97%
  5. Sushi – 93%
  6. Avocado – 91%
  7. Pasta – 75%
  8. Cheese – 75%
  9. Cake – 72%
  10. Burger – 68%

They found that mentioning guacamole when you’re online dating will massively improve the number of inbound messages you receive.

Other notable mentions were bananas (with a 66% increase in inbound messages), ice cream (62%) and fries (61%).

The humble eggplant (aubergine) snuck in at 21% and we hope to hell this isn’t for innuendo reasons.

Interestingly, the worst food to mention is yams, which give a -70% decrease in inbound messages. (And a 1000% increase in my questioning why anyone would be mentioning yams.)

The other bad food to mention – and this genuinely is a shocker – is fried chicken.

Poor old Chicken Connoisseur must have a terrible time of it on Tinder, hey?

Putting aside specific food for a second, Zoosk reveal that just the mere whiff of the fact you love food will send prospective candidates into a frenzy, with those who say they’re a ‘foodie’ and those who talk about cooking receiving more messages.

In fact, profiles with the word ‘foodie’ in receive 82% more messages, which is weird as I’d swipe left on anyone who called themselves that. Foodie. Oh please, you like food. We all like food.

Those who mention the word ‘cook’ receive 26% more incoming messages.

More: Sex

Before you start crafting some cool, culinary openers, we’ve got some confusing news for you.

Despite all the above suggesting otherwise, if you mention cooking in your opening message, you won’t actually get that many more replies.

The only exception to this is those who opened with a message containing the word ‘eggplant’, and we dread to think what those messages say, we really do.

There’s good news for veggies too – apparently back in 2015, being vegetarian resulted in 100% fewer replies than the average, which is quite frankly, outrageous.

Thankfully, these days online daters are more open-minded, with messages that mention being vegetarian getting 3% more replies than your average.

Curiously, people who mention being vegan in their profile get a whopping 62% more messages, which is weird because all the trippity-trap-I’m-going-make-a-really-unfunny-joke-about-bacon trolls on the net seem to hate vegans! (Maybe they’re too busy being haters to try and find love in a hopeless place.)

If you want to get really in depth with Zoosk’s food and dating data, you can read the rest here.

We’re off to do a guacamole face mask with aubergine eye pads.
